Thirty-one stories, first published in the 1950s, in which Bloch explores the monsters living within humans. In “Welcome, Stranger,” an alien descends to Earth to check out the possibility of a takeover. “Daybroke” reveals a man’s reaction to an atomic explosion, and in “The Gloating Place,” a young girl’s misdeed comes back to haunt her.
